About The Practice House

We bought our house during an ice storm in February, 2003. There was a five year plan, after which we'd move on to "bigger and better" things.

Twelve years later, we're still here.

It's not my dream house, and for a long time I was discontent (to put a pretty word on it) with having to live here. I longed for a nice yard. Bigger closets. Another bathroom. A bedroom for each kid. A more functional kitchen. A dining room. A front porch.

And to be truthful, I still do think it would be nice to have all those things.

But since moving is not an option, we've started to embrace this house instead of hate it. We're fixing things, learning how to DIY, trying to make the most of the space we have. Sometimes the results are great and sometimes they're a huge fail. But after putting some work into it, I'm actually starting to like our little old house.

It's a slow journey. Our time and money are spread pretty thin.

But hopefully, all the "practice" we're getting in home repair and maintenance will pay off someday in a more "forever" house. Until then, we're working at being happy with just having a roof over our heads, a place to call home and make memories.

Turns out, contentment feels pretty good. :)
